ENVIRONMENT
TECHNITAL has
been operating in the field of environmental engineering
since the early seventies and has therefore been able to
acquire a considerable experience which ranges from planning
and management, to research applications and design of
environmental recovery interventions.
In the
planning and design of civil works and infrastructures,
environmental criteria have long been fundamental
considerations when choosing the project locations and
evaluating the design options. In this way, any negative
effects are identified immediately and measures to mitigate
them are incorporated in the design. This approach has been
applied extensively in relation to marine and coastal
engineering, where in recent years the firm has extended its
sphere of interest to the naturalistic and eco-technological
sectors, realizing several avant-garde designs, such as: the
creation of eel-grass meadows to reduce the coastal erosion
phenomena; the morphological reconstruction of lagoon
salt-marshes lost by erosion; the creation of artificial
wetland areas to reduce pollution loads of diffuse origin,
artificial beach nourishment and the reconstruction of
coastal dunes.
The experience
of TECHNITAL in the field of environmental protection
and pollution control has matured through its
participation in some of the most important environmental
projects carried out in Italy in the last decades, such as:
the Special
Project for the pollution control of the Gulf of Naples that
covers an area of 2,800 sq. km and comprises the entire
province of Naples and part of the provinces of Caserta,
Salerno, Benevento ad Avellino, with a population of approx.
4 million inhabitants, or the Interventions for the
environmental recovery and preservation of the Venice
Lagoon, a particularly sensitive ecosystem constituted by
550 sq. km of lagoon and a drainage basin of more than 2,500
sq. km, that includes the historical towns of Venezia,
Chioggia, Pellestrina, Malamocco and other inhabited centres
with a total population of more than 1.5 million
inhabitants.
In these
projects TECHNITAL has applied some of the most innovative
and sophisticated study and design techniques which
concerned, among other aspects, the definition of the
environmental conditions, the characterisation of the
pollution sources, the study of the evolution trend of the
most important environmental quality indicators, the
planning and design of pollution control measures.
The firm is
also particularly experienced in dealing with environmental
problems connected with highly sensitive and fragile
ecosystems such as tourist areas, natural reserves or
coastal wetlands. Particularly worthy of mention in this
specific sector is the firm’s involvement in the
Environmental recovery and protection of the Molentargius
Wetland in Sardinia, and the Karavasta Lagoon Wetland
Management Project in Albania, one of the last nesting areas
of an endangered aquatic bird, the Curled Pelican.
