HYDRAULICS
TECHNITAL’s
activities in the field of hydraulic engineering
cover a broad range, with particular emphasis on river basin
management, flood control measures, water distribution and
sewerage networks, dams and waterways.
When in 1984
the Italian Government launched the ambitious “Project for
the safeguarding of Venice and its lagoon against the tidal
floods”, Technital, due to its experience in this field, was
selected as the sole Consultant responsible for all the
engineering activities. The main component of this scheme is
a system of submergible barriers to close the three
entrances of the lagoon whenever high tides are expected.
These works are currently under construction and should be
completed by year 2010.
Another
significant project in this sector was the preliminary
design of the hydraulic works for the new Hydroelectric
Plant of Pont Ventoux, in Val Susa, Italy, which foresees
the partial utilisation of Dora Riparia river waters. The
project was performed in association with Electricité de
France and Coyne et Bellier.
Alongside many
other projects successfully completed in 40 years of
activity in this sector, TECHNITAL is proud of being the
first engineering company in Italy to draw up a complete and
organic Plan for the longest section of waterway hitherto
planned in the country: the Ticino-North Milan-Mincio River
waterway.
TECHNITAL
brings to this field a highly qualified specialist staff and
the most recent technologies in terms of hydraulic
engineering software. The high level of expertise is
maintained by constant interface with the major
international water research laboratories. TECHNITAL’s own
core staff of hydraulic engineers can thus be supported by
experts with specific know-how in the related fields of
hydrology, geology and hydrogeology, soil mechanics,
topographical surveying and mapping, ecology and
mathematical modelling.
