RIVER BASIN MANAGEMENT
Extension of the catchment basin of Lake Trasimeno - Umbria,
Italy

Client:
Tiber River Basin Authority
Services: Feasibility
study, preliminary and final design
Period:
1998 - 1999
Construction cost:
€ 43,898,800
The project:
Lake Trasimeno, occupying an area of 120 km2, with
a maximum depth of 6 m, is a unique swamp environment in
central Italy and of great natural and landscape significance.
Because the water level of the lake has been steadily
diminishing, major hydraulic-environmental works are planned.
The project includes two phases:
Preliminary design of the intake, desilting and derivation
works in three possible locations on sections of basins
adjacent to the Lake Trasimeno catchment area.
This phase includes topographic and
geotechnical investigations and the study for the insertion of
the works in the environment.
Final design of one of the derivation works identified and
defined in the preliminary design.
The final design phase, besides more
detailed topographic and geotechnical surveys, also includes
the study of the environmental impact of the works.
