Study for the development of the Maghama Plain - Mauritania

The project:
The Maghamá Plain is located in the Gorgol region and
extends for some 60 km. along the right bank of the Senegal
river.
The purpose of the first phase of the Study was to determine
the possibilities of agricultural development of the Plain
for a total area of about 30,000 ha, using the water of
Senegal River and its affluents for irrigation. In this
phase five areas, for a total of 6,000 ha., were identified
as suitable for agricultural development.
The second phase of the Study involved the drawing up of a
preliminary design of the works required for the
agricultural development of the five areas selected within
the course of the first phase.
The project included: topographical surveys, mapping,
pedological studies, geological studies, geotechnical
investigations.
