The project:
The services provided included the updating
of the basic design, preliminary design, environmental impact
assessment and detailed design in relation to the new
alignment (approximately 15 km) for the state highway between
the Piedmontese towns of Biella and Mongrande, including the
lighting installations for the interchanges and the safety,
ventilation and lighting systems for the Bessa tunnel.
With the existing alignment passing through several townships
and the inevitable mingling of heavy vehicles with the urban
traffic there is an unbearable level of acoustic and
atmospheric pollution. The principal aim of the design variant
is to divert the through traffic outside the built-up areas
thereby achieving not only considerable environmental benefits
but at the same time restoring greater efficiency to the
traffic system of the urban areas.
The project envisages numerous crossing structures including
an artificial tunnel (661 m) , a viaduct across the Ingagna
stream, two bridges, an overpass and two underpasses, and two
interchanges.
Measures to mitigate the negative impacts on the environment
include sound-absorbent barriers and landscaping works along
the embankments and at the interchanges and the tunnel
entrances.
