Narrative description of Project:
The project road connects the
village
of Umm Bab, on the western shores of
Qatar,
to the Doha-Salwa Highway, with a length of
approx. 37 km. It is conceived to connect the oil fields and
plants of Qatar Petroleum with the main road network of
Qatar.
The road is designed as a double carriageway highway, with two
lanes of 3.65 m per carriageway and shoulders of 3.0 m. plus
2.0 m. verge for a total width of 32,60 m.
It has one main Interchange at the beginning of the section,
where it connects with the Doha – Umm Bab Road, and other four
minor interchanges in conjunction with the accesses to the QP
plants and other existing minor roads. Said minor interchanges
use precast arch concrete structures to underpass the highway
formation.
The
same type of structures are used for 4 “Camel Crossings”, that
are specially design underpasses to allow animals to cross the
highway.
Particular care has been devoted to avoid interference with
the several oil wells scattered along the road corridor and to
negotiate the complicated network of pipelines connecting said
wells with the plants.
The highway is provided with lighting, fencing and landscaping
irrigation.
